1990 – The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) becomes law.
1995 – National Clearinghouse on Disability and Exchange (NCDE) is established.
1997 – NCDE publishes Building Bridges: A Guide to Including People with Disabilities in International Exchange Programs and its first A World Awaits You journal.
1998 – NCDE Joining Hands Conference brings together key exchange and disability leaders NCDE launches first Campus Collaboration campaign
1999 – NCDE publishes Rights and Responsibilities: A Guide to National and International Disability-Related Laws for International Exchange Organizations and Participants
2000s
2003 – NCDE places Exchange Pioneer interns with disabilities at exchange organizations
2008 – The Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) is signed into law
2009 – NCDE holds Accessing the World through International Exchange Disability Community Seminars in New York and Berkeley
2010s
2014 – NCDE conducts a training for the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs
2015 – NCDE conducts “U.S. Disability Rights: 25 Years of the ADA and Beyond,” U.S. Department of State’s Fulbright Foreign Student enrichment seminar NCDE releases Passport to Possibilities video series NCDE produces first season of Ripple Effects podcast
2016 – Exchanges for All: Disability in ECA Exchange Program in Washington, D.C.
2018 – NCDE convenes Joining Hands Symposium in Washington, DC
2020s
2020 – NCDE hosts Joining Hands Virtual Symposium on International Exchange and Disability NCDE launches Access to Exchange externship program
2021 – NCDE conducts first Access to Exchange Summer Institute online course NCDE and ECA co-host activities celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Fulbright Program
2024 – NCDE announces Campus Collaboration Initiative NCDE selects first cohort of Global Access Correspondents
2025 – NCDE celebrates its 30th Anniversary!
