Advancing disability rights and leadership globally®

World Pulse invited MIUSA to engage with them through a long-term partnership and initiative toward inclusive excellence.

World Pulse is a global social network powered by women from more than 220 countries. Through their growing web-based platform, women are speaking out and connecting to create solutions from the frontlines of today’s most pressing issues. Their mission — to create a world where all women thrive: one click, one comment, one connection at a time. World Pulse recently made a commitment to ensure disability inclusion was more intentionally part of their core values and mission. To help them reach their goal, World Pulse invited MIUSA to engage with them through a long-term partnership and initiative toward inclusive excellence.

After conducting an initial assessment with World Pulse staff, MIUSA designed and delivered a two-day virtual training in July 2020. In the training, staff learned about disability rights history, achievements and global challenges, and practical tips for making their media and online content fully accessible and inclusive. World Pulse staff also had the opportunity to create a shared vision for what disability inclusion should look like in all aspects of their work.

These words, shared by World Pulse staff by the end of the training, reflected their understanding that World Pulse has an important role to play in moving the needle for disability justice. They not only understand their responsibility to promote inclusion of women with disabilities in their work, but they also recognize the incredible opportunity to be an innovator and to drive change through an inclusive, intersectional approach.

The training was just the beginning. Over the next several months, MIUSA worked with World Pulse to operationalize their new ideas, strategies and commitments into concrete action. In May of 2021, MIUSA delivered a refresher training to review benchmarks and achievements of action plans. MIUSA also provided opportunities for more in-depth learning about intersectional approaches being led by disabled women of color globally.

Ultimately, MIUSA’s consulting was designed to institutionalize disability inclusiveness in all aspects of World Pulse’s work. Utilizing the tools, skills, and knowledge gained through this initiative, combined with expertise from leaders with disabilities throughout the world, we are confident that World Pulse will accomplish these lasting changes.

World Pulse plans to share their progress and learning trajectory, as well as share successes on how they have incorporated disability into all aspects of their work. MIUSA looks forward to sharing these successes and is proud to support World Pulse on this exciting journey!
