Message from the CEO
Sometimes, it's really hard to imagine something or to dream something you've never experienced.
Over the course of MIUSA's 35 years of leading disability leadership international exchange programs, we have been able to share with over 2,300 leaders with and without disabilities from around the world how different life is for people with disabilities in America. They experience for themselves that:
Yes, people with disabilities should and can ride the public buses.
Yes, people with disabilities can and should be at high schools and universities.
Yes, people with disabilities can be employed, can be leaders, can participate in recreation and sports, can basically have the same rights as everybody else.
This is the magic of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) – to let others experience what is possible. Often, these leaders then want to push for change in their own countries.
We at MIUSA are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) with disability activists and their allies here in the United States and throughout the world. In doing so, we are honoring all those who are working each day to enhance the lives of people with disabilities so that we may have the same rights and opportunities as our non-disabled peers.
Happy anniversary to all!
