Overseas Advisors Hear MIUSA’s Message

Date:

At the Overseas Association for College Admission Advising (OACAC) conference 1,200 attendees listened to MIUSA CEO, Susan Sygall, give a keynote and some attendees also participated in a session on Tools, Technology and Resources to support international students with disabilities.

International students with disabilities are underrepresented at U.S. universities. On July 7, 2015 Susan Sygall addressed 1,200 attendees at Hayward field to kick-off the Overseas Association for College Admission Advising (OACAC) conference, urging the overseas advisors “You can be a champion of inclusion!” and motivating them to infiltrate disability organizations on return their countries to make young people with disabilities aware of the benefits and opportunities to study in the United States.

On July 8, 2015 MIUSA and University of Oregon co-presented a session “Tools, Technology, and Resources: Key Support for International Students with Disabilities”. Attendees gained key skills needed when advising students with disabilities for successful recruitment, and a better understanding of U.S. disability laws, disability support services, disability culture, and accommodations in the U.S., including the various assistive technologies available.
