From the very beginning 35 years ago, empowering women with disabilities has been a top priority within the work we do at MIUSA. Despite being one of the most marginalized populations in the world who experience double discrimination, women with disabilities offer tremendous leadership and the ability to transform communities.
MIUSA taps into that expertise through its signature Women’s Institute on Leadership and Disability (WILD), which brings together women with disabilities from around the world to Eugene, Oregon for three weeks of intensive leadership training. The over 200 graduates of the WILD program have gone on to train other disabled women in their countries, campaign as political leaders, run businesses, and become respected leaders in their communities.
As disabled women activists around the world celebrate International Women’s Day, we applaud their tireless efforts in promoting inclusion and defending human rights and invite you to support our next international WILD program. Thank you, disabled women activists and allies, for being Loud, Proud and Passionate!®
